The first written record of Vyškov appears in a charter issued by the Bishop of Olomouc in 1141. Vyškov Castle, originally a 15th-century Gothic castle, was rebuilt to Tencalla's design between 1665 and 1682 and now houses the Museum of the Vyškov Region. Masaryk Square is home to the town hall, built in 1568–1569, and a plague column dating from 1719. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1464 and 1466.
