Rousínov lies twelve kilometres south-west of Vyškov. It is situated on the Rakovec stream.

The first written record of Rousínov dates from 1222. It was originally called Nový Rousínov and was a walled market town, as shown on the oldest map of Moravia by Pavel Fabricius from 1569. The filial church of St Mary Magdalene dates from 1696 to 1717.
