Odry lies on the Odra River. The town is in Nový Jičín District. It stands 274 metres above sea level.
The first written record of Odry under the name Vyhnanov dates to 1234. Odry is first referred to as a town in 1362. The historic centre is an urban conservation area. It includes the Church of St Bartholomew, dating from 1373 and remodelled in the Baroque style in 1691–1692.
