Letohrad lies in the foothills of the Orlické hory range, at the confluence of the Tichá Orlice and Lukavický potok, about 13 km south-west of Ústí nad Orlicí.
The earliest mention of the castle in Letohrad dates from 1308, and the first mention of the town from 1514. The historic centre is a conservation area. The town has an early Baroque chateau dating from 1680 to 1685, with a landscaped park, and the Church of St Wenceslas. Nový dvůr, a former Baroque agricultural estate, houses the Museum of Crafts.
