Ivančice lies 20 km south-west of Brno. The Jihlava, Oslava and Rokytná rivers meet near the town.
The first mention of the town dates to 1221, and it reached its peak in the 16th century. At that time, bishops of the Unity of the Brethren were based there, and so was their printing press. The historic centre is an urban conservation area, and it contains the Gothic parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.
